Hiking has become an outlet for me, a way to get back in touch with nature after being cooped up inside all week. Especially in winter I feel the urge to get out, to get moving and warm in the fresh air and sunshine.
Of course, the sunlight hours are few and few in between at the moment. Often the days start out foggy and wet like on this trip. We were lucky, the sun fought its way through and we enjoyed our little trail (the Bergheidenweg in Germany’s low mountain range ‘Eifel) very much.
A small hike of 10km this trail still offered a variety of beautiful landscapes. Being away from the noises of the city, with just the rustling leaves under my feet and the odd animal sound in the air I could literally feel stress and worry fall away.
I’m looking forward to taking more hiking trips this winter and I hope you enjoy these little photo documentations!
Lovely photos of your hike through the Bergheidenweg. Just to the north along the Rhein, near Königswinter, the Siebengebirge is one of my favorite places to hike.

these are so beautiful! We took a vacation in the Eifel this past summer (were staying near Daun) and found some great places to hike.

Beautiful photos, Kristina! Being outside in nature is such great stress relief! Too bad my hiking frequency dropped to almost zero this year because of construction works in my house. So yes technically I’m outside, but working 😀 The Eifel is such a beautiful area!

Just think about how the house will be finished at one point and then you can take it up again 🙂

Beautiful! Hiking always helps me to calm down and let go of worries too. Just wish we had better hiking areas nearby!

The Netherlands are not great for hilly walking, I’ll give you that, but you can walk along a beach for hours – that’s quite something too!

Monica, I absolutely agree, hiking is a great mix of workout and relaxation at the same time. It’s just good for body and soul 🙂 Due to an old injury I actually can’t do any other sports right now so I really try to go hiking regularly to get some much needed exercise and fresh air.

Beautiful photos! I love the second to last one in particular. In the US, we do not hear much about hiking in Germany; it is great to have learn more from blogs like yours. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you 🙂 You have such amazing hiking possibilities in the US, no wonder you never hear about hiking in Germany! I guess Germany is not famous for its landscape but for technology and other things. We do have some lovely areas though 🙂
