Find last year’s post on Italy here.
Last weekend I flew down to Italy again for four short days of visiting. My dad needed to go on business and I tagged along to visit my friends.
My Italy is
a warm welcome by friends both old and new.
baking summer heat, dry and salty.
swimming in turquoise water so warm it feels like silk on the skin
colorful, shady streets in the city centre.
a sweet baby boy, who I last saw when he was only a few weeks old and who has won my heart so completely that it was so hard to part from him, knowing he won’t remember me when I’ll see him next.
tiny village shops to buy the best goods in town.
waking in the middle of the night because it’s still basically too warm to sleep.
drinking copious amounts of Estathé, the taste of my childhood.
More photos and infos on Italy over on my photo blog.
I’ll just sit back and dream about sun and beaches and good food and speaking italian while trying to blend out the second cold and rainy summer in a row here in Germany. Back next year for sure.

autumn glow
Just popping in very quickly on a tired week night to quote the amazing Alicia:
“This week, I have noticed that the light has changed, much gentler than the bright summer light. The autumn glow is here…”
The change in the air is barely perceptible here, we’re still having wet, stuffy days and at night are kept awake by thunder and lightening.
But the light…she’s right. The autumn glow really is here.
dew drops and morning sun
sunshine days at the barn
more winter sun
one last summer day
a day at the beach
waiting for summer
spring is coming
but is is slow to arrive. Another beautiful, sunny day today and I have even found the first spring flowers of the year in my mother’s garden.
At the barn on the other hand (which lies a critical few 100 metres higher) everything is again covered in snow.
I have again spent the whole weekend sewing, making a spring dress for myself. I made it on my beloved vintage treadle (that baby rocks!!) except for the button holes and the inside seam finish with zig-zag stitch (I drove out to my mom’s house to use her Pfaff for that). It’s nearly completed, I’ll just have to sew on the buttons by hand tonight and then I’ll do a big dressmaking post 🙂
The cats have spent the day sleeping in the sunny spots on the floor and while I have no photos of that, here’s a recent one of Murphy in all his sweet, anxious little self.
playing with texture (freebie!)
I love adding texture to photos, but I try not to overdo it and often I have a lot of fun playing around with textures but still end up liking the picture best without it. I think the key is to choose the right one(s) and keep it subtle. I thought I’d share with you my pictures from yesterday with a very distinctive, very un-subtle texture to it.
I am still thoroughly enjoying Project 365. Yesterday was a lovely sunny day and I took my camera with me to the barn. I wandered around a bit aimlessly and found these. Every creature was bathing in the sun on the first warm day of the year, horses on the paddocks with their eyes closed, cats on roofs and even these flowers were stretching and turning their heads towards the sun.
I use my own images for texture, mostly painted walls, cracked stone flooring, rusty surfaces…I am always on the lookout and constantly add to my texture folder. I found this on top of some barrels standing around (waiting for rodeo season):
Love this texture and want to use it? Leave a comment to let me know (make sure I’ve got your email address) and I’ll send it to you full size by email!
One more textured picture. To take this I pulled over on the way home, lots of space waiting for the horses to claim it for the summer:
